We are sharing the testimony of Elisa Revert, highly motivated, happy and energetic young girl that has been living in Cyprus as a European volunteer since last February.
JOVESOLIDES has been her sending entity. She is a disciplined and active girl who has managed to find her place in this country very easily, and she has been involved in many different activities. EVS is an experience which she greatly appreciates. She herself is telling us her experience with her own words and one video.
"After finishing my studies in Journalism and a long period of working and having practices as a journalist and audiovisual producer in the European institutions, I needed a break."
I wanted and needed to go further than Brussels for a while, perhaps to a warm place. I wanted to do something different but not completely dissociated from my profession and passion, journalism and international and European issues. I had to practice English, to learn a new language (maybe), to learn more about a nonformal education. I wanted to meet people and to travel, to discover and integrate into a new culture.
But above all, I wanted to spend my time and energy helping other people through my work, using my daily work as a tool in building a more caring and inclusive society, contributing to build a better society in general. I wanted to make a new start, which will be more suitable to my interests, personal happiness and professional future.
But how to do all of this? My economic situation before did not allow me to pay language classes and I couldn’t travel. Doing specialized courses and doing my Master was still not in my mind ... Money, money, it cannot buy happiness ... but it helps!
In these moments of darkness, like a gift from the God, my computer screen enlightened me, with big letters and a little bit confusing ones, appeared what would be the solution to my problems: European Voluntary Service.
What is known as EVS (European Voluntary Service)? All information regarding this program funded by the European Commission can be found in different places and websites. For example, here is a good site where all practical details are explained: http://www.juventudenaccion.injuve.es/acciones/voluntariadoeuropeo/
Leaving formalities aside, now when I am about to finish my volunteering in Limassol (Cyprus), I am hoping that this program can make a change in my life. It is true that this experience is very personal and every person is going to live and perceive it differently, but what is certain is that, without doubts, this will mark things before and after in your life, either on professional or personal level, or on both levels.
Well, as they say a picture is worth a thousand words, here I leave a video which shows what was EVS for me, “My EVS”. Enjoy it!
