From JOVESOLIDES we present you Dina Alnabelsi, very committed European volunteer coming from Jordan. She has been in our team since January. She is sharing with us her experience and her motivation for volunteering.
We want to present you Dina. Precisely today that is her birthday. A young girl, enthusiastic about the Spanish culture, very collaborative, organized in her work and willing to learn from any activity and challenge we give her! Dina, we are pleased to have you in our team and we want to thank you and congratulate you your birthday today !
Here we share his testimony:
My name is Dina Alnabelsi, I am 24 years old and I am from Jordan. I have been a volunteer in JOVESOLIDES since January. The reason I wanted to come here was my wish to make a big change in my life, to go out of "my comfort zone" and that's what I've found here in JOVESOLIDES.
I have always liked Spanish culture and language; I have been studying this language for several years in my free time. In order to have this opportunity to participate in the program European Voluntary Service in Spain, I dropped everything and I took a break from my work, absence permission, and I prepared myself for this unknown experience.
In this short period of time in Valencia I had the opportunity to participate in various activities organized by JOVESOLIDES, and that's what I like. The projects are fun and everyone is different and unique from the rest, so I always feel motivated, because every day there is something new to learn. In addition, there are days during the week when I'm in the office, making graphic design. I like being able to keep up and develop my professional skills in design.
Among the projects that I'm working on, there is Telecenter too: it is open for free use of computers and Internet for people from the neighborhood La Coma. In this place, we help people to use this service and we are supporting them with the paperwork, digital certificate, etc.
Another project is called "PowerYourself". It is a training program for employment for people who want to find work. My work in EmpoderaT is to assist people in their doubts, take pictures for the web, etc. What I like about this project is learning new things on the web daily, as well as which type of information that can be found on the net, which I did not know before.
Besides these projects we will start supporting other project proposals from the area of E-INCLUSION; one being aimed at training in basic computer skills offered to older people, "Mayores Movilizados".
So far I don’t regret for having taken the decision to participate in a European Voluntary Service. I have had the opportunity to see other parts of Spain through my arrival training, I got together with other 25 volunteers throughout Europe. These volunteers have become my friends and I have the opportunity to visit them in almost every part of Spain.
Besides meeting new friends and visiting new places, this opportunity has allowed me to find another family of my own, which I call "my Barrio del Cristo family". This family consists of my two flatmates in the residence, Rameen and Indre. The three of us do our EVS, we live and do everything together. I feel lucky to have such wonderful people in my life.
I am only two months in Spain but I have had more experiences than I have had in the last five years. In these experiences, you not only learn more about the world, but you also learn more about yourself. I learned a lot so far and I'm still excited to know what is waiting me in the 6 months that I have left as a volunteer.
