The Chair of Sports Studies of the Technical University of Valencia awarded the Sport and Citizenship 2022 Prize to the Nala socio-educational improvement project, aimed at children and adolescents in the La Coma neighbourhood of Paterna, in recognition of its social innovation through sports practice.
The institution awards these annual prizes, sponsored by the Regional Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, to highlight good practices that stand out for their contribution in the use of sport in favour of a fairer and more inclusive society. Its aim is to promote the best social innovation projects in the field of sport that help to build a more caring and equitable community. It also aims to nurture a network for dissemination, transfer and training of good practices.
The President of Jovesólides, Lourdes Mirón, explained that for the organisation 'it is an incentive to receive this recognition and encourages us to improve our work with children at risk of social exclusion'. He also announced that as a result of this award 'we have decided to incorporate sport as a transversal axis' in all our socio-educational programmes. 'At the same time, for us, who were born in the university environment, the link between academia and social action seems very important to us', he added.
Also receiving awards in the same category were the Algar Gimnasia rítmica de integración sports club; the Samarucs València LGTBI sports club; the Estreles de Morvedre Rugby Club; and Ontinyent City Council.
