More than 75 people are trained in entrepreneurship and social innovation with a gender perspective at the University of El Salvador thanks to the Valencian cooperation project INNOVATE UES
The Challenge Hackathon and the creation of a University Center for Social Innovation promise to strengthen an entrepreneurial ecosystem with a social focus in the country

The University of El Salvador (UES) celebrates the achievements reached in the first stages of the INNOVATE UES project, a cutting-edge initiative in the territory whose main objective is to strengthen entrepreneurship and social innovation among the university community. With the active participation of the Faculty of Jurisprudence and Social Sciences, as well as the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, this project financed with funds from the Valencian cooperation has marked a milestone in the academic history of UES, the only public university in the country.
The implementation of the project is possible thanks to the financial support of the Generalitat Valenciana and the technical cooperation of Jovesólides, with the strategic support of the IDEAS Institute of the Polytechnic University of Valencia.
The first training activities that have been developed are being very satisfactory for the students, especially highlighting the specialized course in Entrepreneurship and Intellectual Property with a social approach and the specialization in Social Innovation with a gender approach.
The course specialized in entrepreneurship, taught by startUPV technician Israel Griol, has trained 25 participants, including teachers, technical staff and representatives of external organizations, in Lean Startup methodologies, business models, marketing and intellectual protection. Meanwhile, the Diploma in Social Innovation, led by Jovesólides technician Beatriz Muñoz, has had the participation of 50 members of the university community, deepening in social innovation methodologies from a gender perspective.
Challenge Hackathon and a University Center for Social Innovation
INNOVATE UES is preparing for a series of high-impact activities in El Salvador in the coming months.
In mid-April, the first Challenge Hackathon INNOVATE UES will be held, a competition in which students will compete to design creative and innovative solutions to social problems or business challenges, which seeks to promote entrepreneurship and social innovation.
The University of El Salvador will also host the INNOVATE UES Day with the objective of involving the entire university community in social innovation processes and to influence at the institutional level on the need to coordinate efforts for community development.
In addition, work is being done to open physical spaces dedicated to social innovation and entrepreneurship, with the creation of a Center for Social Innovation in the Faculty of Jurisprudence and Social Sciences, and the strengthening of the Center for the Promotion of Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture. This is a pioneering initiative in Central America that promises to consolidate a university ecosystem conducive to creativity and development, marking the beginning of a new era of innovation at UES.
INNOVATE UES is a technical cooperation project funded by the Second Vice-Presidency and Regional Ministry of Social Services, Equality and Housing promoted by Jovesólides with the collaboration of the IDEAS Institute of the Polytechnic University of Valencia.
