From Jovesolides, we continue promoting the International Volunteerism as a tool for both European youth from neighboring countries, as well as for Spanish citizens. European Voluntary Service program is a unique opportunity to learn, discover and experience life in another country and culture, where people in different environments are developing a project of social impact. Jovesolides currently has six volunteers doing their service abroad. Here we share the experience of two of them encouraging you to participate in this adventure of learning!
Lara Olivares (EVS in France)
Greetings, my name is Lara. I'm doing the European Voluntary Service in France with an NGO called ADIFTV, whose priority are the issues of multiculturalism, tolerance and combating racism. We are doing different kinds of activities with young people in this organization. Several months ago we developed a Youth exchange project with many German people. Main activity was cooking typical German dishes, but also other dishes of French or African origin. A part of developing this type of activities, working directly with young people, I am also developing other type of support activities to the organization. I am currently finding partners in the European context for the next project that my organization will have, always with a focus on youth.
I am very excited and I am learning new things and practicing languages every day. Through this activity I have the possibility to travel to Italy and Morocco soon, in order to organize a youth project there. This is a unique opportunity for me. I want to encourage young people like me who may already have finished university and are maybe searching for a new plan: this is a great option to develop professionally by doing something positive for others. I want to thank Jovesolides as sending entity, for the support they are giving me.
Osama (EVS in Austria)
grüss Gott!!
My name is Osama and am participating in the EVS program on a project for teenagers in Vienna, Austria. I have spent almost three months and the truth is that the time is flying!
I am participating in a project called "Potenzial Jugend" whose objective is social employment of adolescents between 16 and 23 years, through practical training related aspects, positive skills to find and keep a job position.
In general, the profile of young people who are participating could be similar to what is known in Spain as "Ninis" (Neither study nor work), although with some other tone. The vast majority are the second generation of immigrants, mostly from Turkey and Eastern Europe, which usually have family problems: selfdestructive problems, young people without a parent (or both parents), young people with little or no attachment to the country or young people with a mental health problem that prevents them to be managed independently in the employment field.
The truth is that as a social worker, I find it very interesting because in the same project I can learn other models and resources about “estxs chavalxs”, and I can take advantage of the cultural diversity there, learn about countries that were unknown for me, such as Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina or Chechnya. At the moment, it is a great experience on a personal and professional level ... so really if you're reading this post and you are interested in EVS, don’t even think twice! Start searching for your project because it is not a waste of time!
If any of you is encouraged to participate in this program, do not hesitate to contact us via evs@jovesolides.org. Here we can inform and advise you about all the process.
