Nearly 200 elderly people from Xàtiva, Novelda, Quart de Poblet and Alboraia participate in this film festival where the involvement of the municipalities in the promotion of active citizenship has been rewarded
Whoever is free of prejudice, cast the first stone! With these eloquent words, the President of Jovesólides, Lourdes Mirón, inaugurated the social film festival La Ventanilla Indiscreta, which brought together nearly 200 elderly people from Xàtiva, Novelda, Quart de Poblet and Alboraia at the ABC Park Cinemas in Valencia.
Mirón explained that La Ventanilla Indiscreta, which aims to promote citizen participation of the elderly in mitigating social problems in their own municipalities, has had 365 participants in this edition developed between 2023 and 2024, in addition to the 1,549 participants in previous editions of the project.
During the event, four social experiments on Islamophobia, migration, gender and decent employment, starring the residents of these municipalities, were premiered in a hall of the ABC Park multiplexes. In addition to participating in these audiovisuals, the population of each municipality actively participated in four seminars to raise awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals and in four discussion forums where the issues addressed in the videos were discussed with experts.
After the premiere of the four experiments in the cinema, an intense space for reflection and debate on the social construction of racist prejudices was opened with the help of experts such as the anti-racist activist Mohamed Gerehou; the director of the Atlas Service of the Generalitat Valenciana, Mariam Barouni; and Samuel Sebastián, director of the SocialMed València Festival.
During the La Ventanilla Indiscreta Film Festival in Valencia, the involvement of the city councils of Xàtiva, Novelda, Quart de Poblet and Alboraia in the promotion of active citizenship among the elderly has also been recognized.
The mayor of Xàtiva, Roger Cerdà; the mayoress of Quart de Poblet, Cristina Mora Luján; the councilor for equality of Novelda, Melani Sánchez; and the councilor for the elderly of Alboraia, Màbel Redondo, collected the awards on behalf of the municipality. All have highlighted the impact of La Ventanilla Indiscreta among the neighbors of their localities to improve intercultural coexistence and eradicate racist prejudices among the population.
