Equality is still a global issue. Also in the Euro-Mediterranean area, where women's participation in the labour market has more obstacles than facilities. In North Africa and the Middle East, the percentage of its presence in the working environment is 25%, while in the Northern Mediterranean countries it is 50%. In addition to the pay gap; women receive wages between 10 and 40% lower than men. And the percentage of women in senior positions is not encouraging; only 1.2% in North Africa and the Middle East,18.6% of the global average. In this scenario drawn by the latest studies of the OECD and the World Bank, InnovAgroWoMed is born.
This project aims to boost women's labor participation and entrepreneurship, harnessing the potential of the agri-food sector, an industry closely linked to the cultural identity of the Mediterranean region.
What will this program improve?
Women participating in the intensive training program will gain the skills needed to be more competitive. They will also discover entrepreneurship as a tool for a job. And beyond all this, the programme will encourage not only them to find employment, but also sustainable employment. In addition, stimulating women's employment and entrepreneurship helps to boost economic growth, reduces poverty and boosts social inclusion.
Who will participate? How will it develop?
The programme is aimed at a total of 140 young women, especially NEETS (no work or education), in rural areas of Italy, Palestine, Spain and Tunisia.
During the development of the programme, the following will be carried out:
4 coaching and mentoring programs.
4 internship programmes on rural social innovation.
2 agribusiness forums that will be a meeting point for certain working profiles with local business needs.
4 agreements to create a local network of agri-food agents. Its goal: to provide equality between job offers and demand.
The project involves five social entities from four countries: University of Rome, Tor Vergata, and the Cesie Centre for European Studies, both from Italy; the Association of Palestinian Women Entrepreneurs, Asala, Palestine, the Centre for Arab Women for Training and Research (CAWTAR), Tunisia and Jovesólides, de España.
