COCO: against everyday racism', the new collaborative project which Jovesólides participates in has been presented today in the locality of Lorca (Murcia). It's main objective is to create a national strategy for education and awareness to combat racism, islamophobia, hate speech and crimes motivated by prejudices, both online and offline.
This innovative programme will allow for the sharing and compiling of educational and awareness tools and will allow for them to be put to test with youth professionals and also with young people. The ultimate goal: to advocate for legislative improvements against all forms of discrimination and hate speech at the national level.
COCO will provide training opportunities to 120 professionals all over Spain who work with young people, to thus introduce themes like racism, islamophobia and hate speech into their educational skills. Subsequently, an in-depth learning experience on the above topics will be offered to more than 1,300 youth in the state in a creative, inclusive and participatory non-formal educational setting. Furthermore, the young people will participate in the planning and implementation of actions processes, and awareness campaigns on the theme, and will become social agents against racism in Spain. For this, they will organise a minimum of 26 local online/offline actions and a big national awareness campaign.
National youth forum
One of the headline actions of the project, financed by the European Union's programme of Rights, Equality and Citizenship (REC), will be the organisation of a National youth forum, conceived with the aim of continuing to share and plan actions and make a greater number of young people aware. Furthermore, the same young people will develop recommendations for policies in the field of racism prevention, islamophobia, hate speech and crimes motivated by hate in Spain, and will establish a direct dialogue with political authorities.
In the presentation of the new programme, developed in the District council room of the Iorquiano local council, Pedo Rojo, the president of the Al Fanar foundation, Tea Stanic, coordinator of projects for the association Cazalla Intercultural, José Ángel Ponce, city councillor for Youth and Lourdes Mirón, president of Jovesólides, were involved.
