It is common to speak of young people as the hope of the future. And very often youth is linked with apathy or lack of solidarity, but more and more this collective raises its voice and claims its place in the present. An example of this is Greta Thunberg, the Swedish teenager who in 2018 decided to start a strike every Friday in protest at the inaction of political authorities on climate change. 'Do you come to us, the young, in search of hope? How dare you?”. And like her, thousands of young people around the world are already leading social change.
At present, in the world, there are 1.800 million people between 10 and 24 years old, 24% of the global population, “the largest generation of young people in history”, points out the UN. 'With the capacity and opportunities to reach their potential, they can be a driving energy for development and contribute to peace and security. The organizations led by them must be encouraged and empowered to participate in the translation of the 2030 Agenda into local, national and regional policies,' the agency stresses.
And in the face of this reality, Jovesólides develops an initiative to bring adolescents from educational centers in the Valencian Community closer to the importance of participation and social activism. Se buscan gigantes is aimed at fostering new attitudes and proposals for change from the defense of Human Rights and the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals. The ultimate goal, to accompany and facilitate the younger collective processes of social participation and political advocacy. All this from awareness, learning and the process of taking the floor in 20 educational centers of the Valencian Community.
A total of 400 young people will raise their awareness of issues such as inequality in access to education, the environment and responsible consumption, gender inequality or the humanitarian crisis affecting migrants and refugees.
Through this project, the entity shall promote the awareness of young people regarding the violation of Human Rights, international agreements and pacts that in the XXI century generate inequality and injustice in various parts of the world. And in addition, it will accompany and train them in how to become activists for a better world.
Throughout the development of the project, young people will develop campaigns and be responsible for an exhibition. Finally, after what they learned in the classroom, they will participate in a day of the Valencian courts and will share their proposals for visibility of social, economic and political reality. The main objective: to vindicate the protection of Human Rights.
