Who said that summer is only for lying in the sun? In La Coma de Paterna, fifty young people have shown that it can also be an opportunity to learn, enjoy and grow in diversity. From July 1 to 24, the neighborhood has hosted the fifth edition of the Summer School organized by Kumpania and Impulsa Kumpania through Jovesólides.
Under the name Kumpafest and with the theme of summer music festivals, the children and young participants, aged between 3 and 17 years, have lived a summer full of adventures and learning. What better way to spend July than with water activities, sports, creative workshops and exciting weekly outings? Not forgetting the school reinforcement, which has been done in such a fun way that (almost) no one has remembered that they were learning.
Among the most outstanding activities, fluorescent canvas painting has been the sensation of the summer, surprising everyone with its novelty and creativity. Among the youngest children, the Sensory Sea activity has been a unique experience that they have loved. These activities, along with many others such as multi-adventure, karting, water parks, cooperative games or team sports, have not only entertained but also encouraged the participation and inclusion of all young people.
With the aim of promoting gender equality, diversity, interculturalism and healthy habits among Roma students, the Kumpania and Impulsa Kumpania Summer School seeks to improve the socio-educational situation of the participants, paving the way for a successful return to the classroom in September after having passed the school year with flying colors.
In addition, the festival atmosphere of the Kumpafest with dressing rooms, music groups, press teams, food trucks, bracelets, musical instruments… of their own creation has made each day a new exciting and very motivating adventure for the students of the neighborhood, thus reinforcing the fight against school dropout. The rate of early school failure among young people of gypsy ethnicity is 63%, compared to 4% on average for the Spanish population.
The positive impact of this Summer School grows year after year, offering the youth of La Coma (Paterna) a unique opportunity to participate in activities and outings that are not always possible during the school year. This environment not only allows for a more immersive and transformative experience, but also helps to integrate norms and values effectively, promoting greater personal and community transformation.
The experience has facilitated the creation of bonds in a more relaxed and relaxed environment, laying the groundwork for a more cohesive and harmonious start to the school year. In summary, the Kumpania and Impulsa Kumpania Summer School has not only been a success in terms of participation and activities, but has also contributed significantly to the personal and social development of the children and youth of La Coma.
