The Víctor Villegas Auditorium in Murcia will become the epicentre of the fight against male violence on 5 July with the celebration of the ‘Ke No Da = Fest‘ Festival. This event will bring together 300 young people, political authorities and experts in a joint effort to promote equality and combat male violence.
The day will feature a performance by rapper Sara Socas, who will give a concert in the R.E.M. hall to close the Festival. The play ‘No soy tu gitana‘ will also be presented, a powerful production by ‘Teatro del Barrio‘ that addresses issues of identity and discrimination with the outstanding performance of Silvia Agüero and the direction of Nill García.
Attendance at the Festival is free, you can book your ticket here. To enjoy Sara Socas‘ performance you can buy a reduced price ticket here.
The Festival ‘Ke No Da = Fest‘ will open its doors at 09:30 hours. The day will begin with the official opening by Margarita Guerrero Calderón, Director General of INJUVE; Member of the European Parliament Marcos Ros Sempere; and Carmen María Muñoz Espallardo, Director General of Youth of the Region of Murcia; where the results of the European project No Da Igual promoted by Cazalla Intercultural (Murcia), Jovesólides (Comunidad Valenciana), Fundación Plan B (Castilla y León) and Proyecto Kieu (Castilla-La Mancha) will be presented. One of the most eagerly awaited moments will be the political debate that will bring together young people and authorities to discuss policies and actions in favour of gender equality. It will be attended by Yaissel Sánchez, member of the Valencian Parliament, Manolo Copé, councillor of Alicante City Council; the councilor of the Calpe City Council, Mireia Ripoll; and María Jesús Pérez Galant, former director general of citizen participation, among others.
There will be three parallel spaces where, throughout the day, ten educational workshops will be held on a range of topics, from personal empowerment to diversity education and the fight against gender-based violence. Young people will also be able to enjoy performances, exhibitions and a variety of cultural activities that will encourage reflection and social engagement.
The day not only promises to be a platform for learning and debate but also a space for citizen participation and cultural enjoyment. With activities ranging from collaborative mural making to educational games and chill out zones, the event is designed to engage the whole community in an inclusive and participatory environment.
The festival for equality will be the culmination of the European project No Da Igual. With the aim of raising awareness among young people against gender violence and eradicating sexist behaviour in society, twenty-four young people aged between 14 and 21 from different parts of Spain have developed one hundred and twenty workshops to raise awareness for equality in schools and social entities in Murcia, Valencia, Castilla y León and Castilla-La Mancha.
These workshops have addressed topics of great interest such as male violence, fatphobia, power relations and models of masculinity or gender Islamophobia, among others. The team of young agents of change has received specific training to carry out this mission, working on personal skills such as self-confidence, public communication and group dynamics. The learning process of these promoters of equality is supported by the Practical Guide – Diary for agents of change, a compilation of topics, activities, reflections and resources that is available for download and free use.
