It is a pleasure to publish the experience of such a caring, sweet and highly motivated girl. We have met Miriam when she asked us for the European Voluntary Service. It has been 8 months already since Miriam is doing her European Voluntary Service in Italy. She is delighted and wants to share her experience with us.
Hello everyone! Ciao a tutti! I am Miriam, I am 26 years old and I am from Valencia. I started the EVS in Italy in September last year. I can consider myself a very lucky person because after waiting long, finally I can make this great experience!
I'm in a city in Tuscany called Prato, barely 20 minutes by train from Florence. My organization is called Legambiente and is responsible for promoting the environment, protection of natural resources and environmental education.
My volunteerism lasts one year but do not think that I'll be alone in this adventure. I live with four other volunteers with different nationalities. A Portuguese, Hungarian, Russian and other Spanish. Definitely a big cultural exchange makes this experience even richer.
The activities here are many and they are various, but I would like to highlight three of them. The first is hippotherapy. Two days a week we are helping in a therapy center with disabled children and horses. I have to admit it was an activity that gave me much respect as I had never worked with children and horses, but is still very rewarding and I am learning so much every day.
The second activity is environmental education in schools. The group Legambiente performs different schools meeting to discuss energy and raise awareness about good use of energy. This activity interests me the most because it is the one that is related to my studies in Environmental Sciences and may be the most useful for my future. And finally, there are the activities undertaken to make the population more sensible, such as “We are cleaning the world”, a campaign that involves cleaning the garbage on green spaces and highlights, both to children and adults, the importance of recycling.
I still have a few months of volunteering and I am sure they will be very intense and exciting. From here I would like to appeal to all young people who want to have new experiences in their lives to become informed about the EVS and to be encouraged to do so. In the end, I would like to thank Jovesolides team once again, which was always great with me and helped me very much. They are professionals as the top of a pine!
